Debra Schaffner is a freelance video editor and producer based in Oakland, California. She combines her ability to tell engaging stories with a deep technical background in post-production. Most recently, she edited and co-produced the wildlife documentary series Celebrity Explorers for Wild Aid & Shanghai Media Group which will have its broadcast premiere on Chinese television in 2018.


Debra started her career at Wild Brain animation and continued as an editor and audio engineer at BAVC and CurrentTV. As an editor, she has cut everything from doc shorts at KQED to trailers, promos and commercial pieces for Adobe. In 2012 she helped build and launch the online crafting site Creativebug as the Director of Media Production. In 2014, Debra edited the documentary film Waking In Oak Creek, profiling a suburban town rocked by hate after six worshippers at the Sikh Temple of Wisconsin are killed by a white supremacist. In the educational realm, she produced and edited a series of doc shorts for Edutopia  (The George Lucas Foundation). She is currently directing the feature documentary Curse of the Mutant Heirloom.
